\u201cIf I were placed on a cannibal island and given the task of civilizing its people,\u201d <\/em>Brigham Young reportedly said, \u201cI should straightway build a theatre for the purpose.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Brigham Young himself starred in a production of PIZARRO in Nauvoo in the 1840s. In Salt Lake City, the Social Hall had been built in 1853, but was found to be too small to produce major productions. The Salt Lake Theatre was commissioned in 1861 and finished in 1862. It was a first class theatre of its time. Celebrities and stars of the era performed there, along with locally cast productions being presented. Brigham Young said in his dedication of The Salt Lake Theatre:<\/p>\n

\"\"Thomas F. Rogers<\/a><\/strong>, Friend, Mentor, Collaborator, staunch supporter of my publishing\/licensing efforts, passed away on June 24, 2024 in the early afternoon. I will miss him sorely. I saw his masterful performances onstage many times. It was thrilling to watch performances and rehearsals of plays he had\/was directing. I was privileged to edit and publish his significant collection of plays, and a musical we wrote together. He has joined his beloved Merriam. I know he is at peace. He will be sorely missed by students, friends, family and colleagues.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
