With a BA in English and Theatre, Wesleyan University, SUSAN KIM<\/b> is a playwright, TV writer, and author of fiction, non-fiction and graphic novel. Her two graphic novels w\/co-author Laurence Klavan, City of Spies<\/i> (artwork by Pascal Dizin) and Brain Camp<\/i> (artwork by Faith Erin Hicks), were published by First Second Books in 2010. “Flow: the Cultural Story of Menstruation” (co-written w\/Elissa Stein) was published by St. Martin\u2019s Press Griffin in 2009. With Laurence Klavan, she also wrote the young adult fiction trilogy, Wasteland. <\/i>The nonfiction book\u00a0Flow: the Cultural Story of Menstruation<\/i>, was written with graphic designer Elissa Stein. <\/i>Plays include the stage adaptation of Amy Tan\u2019s The Joy Luck Club<\/i> (Dramatists Play Service) and various one-acts that were produced in the Ensemble Studio Theatre Marathon, including Death and the Maiden<\/i>, Rapid Eye Movement<\/i>, Dreamtime for Alice<\/i> (Dramatists Play Service and Farrar Strauss), and Memento Mori<\/i> (Smith and Krauss), Seventh Word Four Syllables<\/i>,\u00a0 <\/span>as well as\u00a0The Arrangement, Where It Came From, Open Spaces<\/i>, and the book to the musicals\u00a0Merlin\u2019s Apprentice<\/i>\u00a0(with Stephen Cole & Matthew Ward) and\u00a0Allison Under the Stars<\/i>\u00a0(with Zina Goldrich and Marcie Heisler). One-acts include\u00a0Memento Mori <\/i>(Smith & Kraus), Pandora <\/i>(Farrar Straus and Dramatists Play Service), Dreamtime for Alice <\/i>(Farrar Straus and Dramatists Play Service),\u00a0Rapid Eye Movement, Seventh Word Four Syllables<\/i>, and\u00a0Death and the Maiden.<\/i> Her work has been produced internationally. Her one act Guts<\/i> was produced as an independent film, which aired on PBS. Other documentaries include AMC\u2019s \u201cImaginary Witness: Hollywood and the Holocaust\u201d and the three-part PBS series \u201cThe Meaning of Food.\u201d She has been the story editor\/head writer on many animated TV series, including episodes for Reading Rainbow<\/i>, Are You Afraid of the Dark?<\/i>, Daniel Tiger\u2019s Neighborhood<\/i>, Octonauts,<\/i> and Bubble Guppie<\/i>s, Bossy Bear<\/i>, Love Monster,<\/i> Bea’s Block<\/i>, Zenko Go!<\/i>, Deepa & Anoop<\/i>, Thomas & Friends<\/i>, Dew Drop Fairies<\/i>, Rusty Rivets<\/i>, Butterbean’s Cafe<\/i>, Zooey Zoo<\/i>m, Cyberchase<\/i>, Arthur<\/i>, Nina’s World<\/i>, Martha Speaks<\/i>, Speed Racer<\/i>, Cloud<\/i> Bread<\/i>, Insectibles<\/i>, and Courage the Cowardly Dog<\/i>. Ms. Kim has been nominated five times for the Emmy and four times for the Writers Guild award for her work in both non-fiction and children\u2019s TV; she won a Writer\u2019s Guild of America award in 1996 for Best Documentary. She lives in New York City, is a member of the Writers Guild of America East, the Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, and Ensemble Studio Theatre, and teaches dramatic writing in the MFA program at Goddard College.
