The audience is name-tagged on entrance making the \u201cFamily.\u201d Heber Farley (Family President) introduces stranger and increasingly hilarious family members who sing &#8211; nearly on key, dance \u2013 without rhythm, play instruments- strangely, give eccentric advice. The \u2018Family Program\u2019 creates Christmas chaos that that leads to uproarious, side-slapping heights. Several audience\/family members are brought onstage and are proudly given ludicrous prizes. The Farleys remind us of all our odd aunts, uncles, cousins, and neighbors. The humor is clean, the characters are more and more outrageous. The saving grace? After all is said and done, they still love everyone\u2026 even you!<\/p>\n<p>PLAY DETAILS<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CAST: 8m, 8f +extras<\/li>\n<li>CHARACTERS:\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>CHESTER<\/b> \u2013 An electronics geek.\u00a0 32ish, a bit oafish, doing the best he can under trying circumstances. \u00a0Married to Parley\u2019s daughter, Ruthie.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>HEBER<\/b> \u2013 The President of the \u201cFarley Family Corporation, Organization, Association.\u201d\u00a0 He is mid-70\u2019s. The MC of the Farley Family Reunion and events. Hard of hearing, doting, misusing words, running events from his pocket notebook, and perpetually earnest.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>PARLEY<\/b> \u2013 Heber\u2019s younger brother, early 60\u2019s. He owns the house containing the auditorium where the Family is meeting.\u00a0 A security guru, but somewhat like a used car salesman.\u00a0 A bit condescending and pompous.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>AUNT VIOLA<\/b> \u2013 Normally quiet and sort of shy, 40\u2019s to 50\u2019s. However, when called upon to perform (sing.) \u00a0She has a monstrous voice with an \u201coperatic\u201d vibrato like a Mac truck.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>GRAMPA DEAN <\/b>\u2013 The Patriarch of the Farley\u2019s.\u00a0 He\u2019s 99, sly and rickety: cane dependent.\u00a0 His legs tremble but he knows the slap cure!\u00a0 Still sharp and expressive at his age but reckoning with a body that\u2019s falling apart.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>DELBERT<\/b> \u2013 5 or 6, this little boy has been spoiled by his overattentive mother. \u00a0As kind of a monkey on a chain, he\u2019s been made to do too much in his young life and though he complies, he\u2019s not happy about it.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>AUNT BEATRICE<\/b> \u2013 Heber\u2019s step-sister, late 60\u2019s to early 70\u2019s. A remarkable woman and dedicated to her \u201cbusiness\u201d to save the planet. Still vital and expressive, she is rather puckered with her personality, but expressive about her calling.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>VONELL<\/b> \u2013 Late 50\u2019s, he maintains a \u201cprofessional\u201d countenance as a Nevada night club showman. Rather loud and loquacious, he hates silence. His singing is so overpoweringly jazzy that one can\u2019t tell, with all the pops and gyrations, whether he has talent or just a patchwork of imitations and parodies.\u00a0 However, Vonell believes he is a real artist.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>RUTHIE<\/b> \u2013 Mid 30\u2019s. Wife of Chester and daughter to Parley. Obviously pregnant, she has let go of herself some. Rather crass she is no nonsense and has the opposite life rhythm of Heber.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>EUGENE<\/b> \u2013 Two weeks from turning 18.\u00a0 He appears to be a typical \u201cborder\u201d without the board.\u00a0 Speaks like his generation, fairly smart with a real goal and plan to work it in mind.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>AUNT VIDA &amp; THETA<\/b> \u2013 Theoretically unseen at the organ, off stage Right.\u00a0 They are responsible for all the organ music playing over, and, of course, for the ripping unbelievably tried-hard-but-can\u2019t version of \u201cSleigh Ride\u201d that enrages Heber.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>FERRELL<\/b> \u2013 A \u201cplant\u201d in the audience, middle-aged, a little hefty.\u00a0 Just a little mouthy.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>AUNT PEARL <\/b>\u2013 A perennial sunshiner in her late 50\u2019s early 60\u2019s.\u00a0 She has the ability to love everybody while finding their flaws.\u00a0 She is a little blunt, quick to enjoy, and no real sense of fashion. Far from a hillbilly or backwoodser, she simply sees herself as perennially cute.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>ABBY, ELLEEE, LORINDA, <\/b>(younger girls),<b> <\/b><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>PHIL<\/b> (adult male),<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>FIVE FAMILY MEMBERS <\/b>(various ages),<b> <\/b><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>JERRY<\/b> (young adult male),<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>FAMILY MEMBER \u201cA\u201d thru \u201cD\u201d <\/b>(D is a married couple) <b>\u2014 <\/b>could be \u2018Plants\u2019 in the audience.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>SWEETUMS<\/b> \u2013\u00a0 A mostly silent, deadly pageant girl of 7 or 8.\u00a0 She has one goal in life: win, win, win.\u00a0 Her determined almost zealous race for perfection is countered by her youth and lack of real talent.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>LONNIE JACK <\/b>\u2013 A vibrant young Texan in his 20\u2019s.\u00a0 He is Aunt Pearl\u2019s Grandson, and currently serving at the nearby the Air Force base.
