{"id":8345,"date":"2019-02-19T10:59:51","date_gmt":"2019-02-19T10:59:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leicesterbaytheatricals.com\/?p=8345"},"modified":"2022-10-29T10:57:12","modified_gmt":"2022-10-29T10:57:12","slug":"tim-laycock-author","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leicesterbaytheatricals.com\/?p=8345","title":{"rendered":"Tim Laycock &#8212; Author"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tim Laycock is a Dorset man of many talents: actor, writer, musician\u2026.\u00a0\u00a0 He often combines these roles, adding much to all aspects the performances in which he is involved.<\/p>\n<p>Splitting Tim\u2019s work into neat packages just isn\u2019t possible, but to give you a flavour of the incredibly wide range of things in which he gets very successfully involved:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Past company member with The National Theatre and Festival Theatre Chichester among others.<\/li>\n<li>Actor\/Musical Director in (among others):<\/li>\n<li>The Old Wife\u2019s Tale at Shakespeare\u2019s Globe August 2000<\/li>\n<li>Dorchester Community Play \u201cA Time to Keep\u201d 2007<\/li>\n<li>Composer and Musical Director for the 2014 Dorchester Community Play \u201cDrummer Hodge\u201d, drawing rave reviews.<\/li>\n<li>Led \u2018Tuneful Stories\u2019 sessions through the summer of 2013, at Hardy\u2019s\u00a0Birthplace.<\/li>\n<li>Music\u00a0and storytelling projects with the:<\/li>\n<li>Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Poole and Bournemouth Schools.<\/li>\n<li>Extensive storytelling work in Dorset schools<\/li>\n<li>Specializes in readings of the poetry of William Barnes and Thomas Hardy.<\/li>\n<li>Playwright, writing for theatre companies and community groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thomas Hardy stage adaptations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Return of the Native 1985. An adaptation of Thomas Hardy\u2019s novel which received a South West Arts writer\u2019s award, and was performed in Dorset in 2005 by the New Hardy Players<\/li>\n<li>The Distracted Preacher. In 2010 Tim directed Ray Sargent\u2019s adaptation of Thomas Hardy\u2019s humorous short story as the New Hardy Players\u2019 summer production.<\/li>\n<li>The Withered Arm. Tim worked with Pippa Brindley and the Museum Makers group at Dorset County Museum to devise a new play based on Thomas Hardy\u2019s short story The Withered Arm. A cast of 18 actors, performers and carers worked on Monday mornings for several months to produce an hour long play with music, human and shadow puppetry, dance and audience participation.<\/li>\n<li>Wrote and directed a 20 minute DVD about Thomas Hardy\u2019s work, commissioned by the National Trust<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tim is also a skilled folk musician, and collects Dorset (and other) folk songs, sometimes putting them to music.
