Hana was a working actor (Wynn Handman, American Place Theatre) and mime (Alvin and Mark Epstein, Solomon Yakim) when she won a Fulbright Scholarship in Mime to Paris, France. Returning from Paris to accept a place at Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, she subsequently guested on network t.v., created and toured the East Coast with her four one-woman clown/circus/musical/magic shows: I’LL BE THE CIRCUS (choreographed with Yuri Belov, former Director of Clowning for the Moscow State Circus, music by Burt Schuman and Barry Soloway), CLOWNCAPADES, PARK PEEPL (based on the book by Susan Perl), and HANABELLE’S HOLIDAY MAGIC (commissioned by Citicorps Center), and trained in Musical Theatre with Aaron Frankel (WRITING THE BROADWAY MUSICAL) and David Spencer. JACK! emerged from Hana’s appreciation of fairytale structure and Old Time Music. Director Kate Marks gave the show a 6 1/2 week sold-out run at The Looking Glass Theatre, NYC, and consequent recordings came out of the Big Creek Studio, Asheville, NC. Influenced by time spent in dairy-producing Delaware County, Catskill Mountains, New York, JACK! was redeveloped into JACK AND THE CHOCOLATE MILK COW, with new songs added by Hana and John Henry. Currently Hana is writing book and lyrics for UNDER HER HAT! (score by Tor Ingar Jakobsen), a full-length musical comedy which has been seen and heard twice at the Emerging Artists Theatre Festival, NYC (E.A.T. Notes from the Page series for Developing Musicals). Hana continues to enjoy teaching Circus Arts and Fairytale Workshops in the Catskills and workshopping UNDER HER HAT! in the city.
