Jody D. Brown, Ph.D. — University of Nebraska, Professor Emeritus (Ferrum College)
Besides, over 35 years as a college professor, Brown has over 40 years of experience performing in and promoting theater productions. Now retired, she continues performing Jack Tales with the Jack Tale Storytellers, is the Secretary of the Franklin County Electoral Board, Treasurer of the Scruggs Vol. Fire and Rescue Squad Inc., and President of the SML Lions Club Scholarship Trust. She based the goals in “My Travels with Cecil: A Guide for Teachers” on the 2002 Virginia Standard of Learning from grades K through 5, but suggests the activities can be easily modified to any elementary classroom.
Brown has coordinated many projects that combined theatrical projects with public school goals. “My Travels with Cecil” premiered at Ferrum College for its alumni weekend on May 18, 2002. It played two performances at Benjamin Franklin Middle School for 6th grade on May 22, 2002; performances at Boones Mill Elementary School and Sontag/Snow Creek Elementary School on May 23, 2002; Callaway Elementary School and Ferrum Elementary School on May 24, 2002; as a benefit performance for the St. James Food Bank on May 26, 2002; Burnt Chimney Elementary School on May 30, 2002; Benjamin Franklin Middle School (for 7th and 8th grades) and Henry Elementary School on May 31, 2002; Rocky Mount Elementary School on June 3, 2002; Glade Hill Elementary School on June 7, 2002; and at Dudley Elementary School and Lee M.
